Constructive Criticism
Fresh eyes can provide great feedback
We've all been there. You finally put down your pen, close your laptop, and breathe a sigh. The first draft is finished. You love it. You hate it. You need a second opinion. Someone else to read it, to make sure that all your characters and/or lines are making sense. Your parents will always say they love it; you need a peer. An unbiased, honest peer, willing to offer constructive criticism and ways to improve the piece overall.
Here at The Hub we understand that in-class workshops are wonderful, but they're not always available when needed. Sometimes we have a piece ready for critiquing when it's not our week. Sometimes we produce a slew of work during the off-season (winter and summer break) and are in dire need of our peer reviews: this is where The Hub's "CRITIQUE" section comes in.
We offer two different solutions to all of your feedback needs:
01
Open Critique
Essentially a message-board, the Open Critque is a place for students in the SUNY Oswego Creative Writing Program to post their work so that others may read and critique it on their own time. Posts are shown publicly on The Hub, and anyone may respond to them with constructive criticism, suggestions, and advice on how to improve the piece. This critique option has no regimented deadlines.
02
Online Writing Circle
The Online Writing Circle is a regimented, monthly critique group that is run entirely online. It is a way of keeping the critiquing process alive during summer months, and even after graduation. Each month, those who have been accepted to join this circle offer up one piece of writing to be critqued, and critique a piece from another member of the circle. This option has strict deadlines, and is a great opportunity for anyone who needs a bit of structure in the abyss that is "post-graduation." To join, submit an application.
