Where have I wandered?

The Program; The People; The Hub

The Hub is everything and anything SUNY Oswego Creative Writing. It is the web-based epicenter of the SUNY Oswego Creative Writing program, run by its students, for its students.

In its entirety, The Hub looks to connect our professors, our program, and our students through one central site meant as a collection of resources and a creator of collaboration.

Creative Writing Will Teach You To:
… foster intelligence.

Reading well-written characters actually increases the brain’s ability to experience empathy, and teaches the brain to form connections between complex thoughts. Good literature actually makes you smarter.

… write stories that articulate the ineffable.

You’ll write birthday cards that make your parents cry and write love poems that make someone think, “Yes, this is just what I feel.” You will be able to write letters that people save in wooden boxes that someone carved by hand.

… give and receive constructive criticism.

It’s easy to criticize in ways that make people feel defensive. This community teaches us to layer praise with criticism, ask questions, offer suggestions, and create an encouraging dialogue about improvement. Grow with peers who value transformative literature and creativity, and share incredible ideas.

… be confident.

You will learn to structure your writing and bring flair to discussions and papers regardless of discipline. You might someday create the piece that inspires a young person to take the chance and become a writer.

… find magic in everyday life.

Writing will fulfill you in ways that paychecks will not.
